Demonstration Projects
In the course of this project with a duration of five years the following eight demonstration sites shall be built, operated, monitored and evaluated:
Project 1: CIAT subsidiary building in Septemes les Vallons, France
Type of building:
Existing office building used as sales office and for customer service, to be retrofitted in 2009/2010, comprising workshop, offices and social rooms
Purpose:
Heating and cooling (heating capacity: 26 kW, cooling capacity: 26.6 kW), not providing domestic hot water
Replaced system:
20 years old air-to-water heat pump (30 kW) and complete distribution system, fan coil units, air heaters
Heat pump system:
Ground source heat pump with vertical borehole heat exchanger, to be installed in 2010
Distribution system:
Air handling units as well as air heaters in the workshop
Project 2: University of Oradea, Romania
Type of building:
Building refurbished in 2010, comprising 19 rooms (rest rooms, seminar rooms, laboratories, offices, a technical room) and a staircase
Purpose:
Heating and cooling
System replaced:
Gas boiler
Heat pump system:
Ground source heat pump with a nominal heating capacity of 38 kW, vertical borehole heat exchangers
Distribution system:
Panel heating/cooling system
Project 3: Regional authority administration building in Coimbra, Portugal
Type of building:
Existing regional authority administration building with offices and laboratories.
Purpose:
Heating and cooling
System replaced:
Air to water heat pump for heating and cooling (Lennox)
Heat pump system:
Ground source heat pump with a heating capacity of 54.5 kW and cooling capacity of 51.4 kW.
Distribution system:
Hydronic distribution system connected to two air handling units.
Project 4: Municipal hall in Benedikt, Slovenia
Type of building:
Existing public building comprising conference rooms and offices
Purpose:
Heating, cooling and domestic hot water (heating load: .. kW, cooling load: .. kW)
System replaced:
Oil boiler
Heat pump system:
Ground source heat pump with a vertical borehole heat exchanger
Distribution system:
Project 5: University of Valencia, Spain
Type of building:
Existing university building comprising seminar rooms, laboratories, offices and workshops
Purpose:
Heating and cooling
Heat pump system:
An existing ground source heat pump (heating capacity 17 kW, cooling capacity 15 kW) with six vertical borehole heat exchangers, will probably replaced by a Hiref heat pump (heating capacity 20 kW, cooling capacity 18 kW), system to be optimized
Distribution system:
Fan coil units
Project 6: La fàbrica del sol in Barcelona, Spain
Type of building:
Existing building of an old gas factory, being renovated, comprising workshop, offices and social rooms for an information center for renewable energies
Purpose:
Heating and cooling
Heat pump system:
Ground source heat pump with vertical borehole heat exchangers, will be operated in parallel with a solar heating and cooling system (absorption machine) supported by a biomass bioler
Distribution system:
Ground floor with air system and first floor with fan-coils
Project 7: Hiref factory in Padova, Italy
Type of building:
Existing building comprising production center and offices
Purpose:
Heating/cooling and domestic hot water
System replaced:
Boiler for heating, chiller for cooling
Heat pump system:
Reversible water-to-water heat pump , four vertical borehole heat exchangers
Distribution system:
Fan coil units and mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery
Project 8: Office building of EDRASIS in Athens, Greece
Type of building:
Existing office building
Purpose:
Heating and cooling, covering part of the total demand of the whole facility
System replaced:
GSHP operating in parallel with the existing system which comprises a boiler for the production of hot water and an air-to-water chiller for the production of cold water
Heat pump system:
Ground source heat pump with vertical borehole heat exchangers
Distribution system:
Central air handling units and fan coil units (FCUs)
