Ground source heat pump with a heating capacity of 54.5 kW and cooling capacity of 51.4 kW.

Ground-Med heat pump will replace existing air-to-water Lennox heat pump for heating and cooling the 420 m2 chemistry and microbiology laboratories, improving COP from 2.8 for cooling and 2.94 for heating to >5.0 all year round. Present heat pump capacity is 51.4 kW for cooling and 54.5 kW for heating. Existing water loop will be used which has 5 cm pipes feeding two air handling units, which provide a high renewal rate of outside air, operating 24 hours per day, although at a smaller rate during the night. The Ground-Med heat pump will also provide additional heating and cooling to the other parts of the building, which are 1600 m2 of offices and meeting rooms, in parallel to existing multi-split heat pumps (7 units supplying 70 fan-coil units using a R410A refrigerant).
