GSHPs win the German energy savings competition

Jul. 22, 2009 – The German Energy Agency (DENA) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment were searching for hidden champions in the housing renovation sector. They found six winners of the category "heat pumps" and and the first winner of the category "combined heating systems" - all using ground source heat pumps!

The competition geared at buildings that were build before 1995 and have undergone renovation activities including the use of renewables.

Prices have been awarded in the following categories:

- Solar thermal energy

- Biomass

- Heat pumps

- Combined systems

The major criterion was a high efficiency of the final system and its smart integration into the given situation.

Not only do the distinguished winners of the category "heat pumps" show an innovative and efficient use of the technology in the renovation sector, but also did a multi-family building using heat pump technology and solar thermal collectors making the first rank in the category "combined systems".
