New German funding guidelines for renewable energies

Apr. 11, 2011 – In March 2011, the German government revised its subsidies for renewable energies, amending inter alia the incentive scheme for heat pumps. Large heat pumps for industrial use are now also eligible for funding, provided by the German government-owned development bank KfW Banking Group.

The market stimulus programme (Marketanreizprogramme), by the German Federal Environment Ministry supports the use of renewable energy sources with a total amount of €500 million per year in the period from 2009 to 2012.

Subject to support are among others installations using aerothermal, hydrothermal and geothermal energy sources in existing buildings. Different levels of support are available for air/water, ground/water and water/water heat pumps that cater for both hot water needs and space heating, depending on whether these are electrically or gas driven as well as on whether these are installed in residential or non-residential buildings.
